One Year Ago, Today
We had returned from our big Thanksgiving weekend with the family and thinking of heading to bed. I decided to check my e-mail once more–you know, just in case. I couldn’t believe my eyes:
Dear Adam and Crystal,
I just received a call from Irina in regard to your court hearing scheduled on December 24!!!! My congratulations!!!
The news is great and I’m glad that you will have a chance to become parents of Diana officially this year. My only concern that you will be joining Joe & Leigh and Alicia and Brian in long after court wait prolonged by new adopted from January 1, 2005 Russian Christmas holidays. It will bring you to Khabarovsk on December 22 and probably you will be able to leave Khabarovsk only on January 12 and Moscow on January 14
You may start to work on your travel arrangement right tomorrow. Please order your visas with Albina from December 19- January 18 and please try to make tentative airline arrangements, only please don’t buy your tickets yet, just book.
Talk to you tomorrow.
Best regards, Olga
So this year, we sat down to our first Thanksgiving meal as a family. Adam on one side, myself on the other, with our sweet little angel (being a tad big devilish at the dinner table) between us. We have a lot to be thankful for, this year.
Wednesday night we headed North to spend Thanksgiving with the Bodette side of the family with whom we enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner, as is tradition. We headed home on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately it took us more than an hour extra to get home since we ran into some nasty weather between there and Madison. Saturday morning, the Bodette Grandparents then came to our house, so the ladies could enjoy a little shopping. The men also took in a basketball game Saturday night.
On an interesting note, last weekend when we went to Michigan to visit my family, Lidia really started asking to use the potty. She had been doing this every once in a while at home, but not usually so frequently. She went several times durning that weekend, and then during the following week.
Well, on Thursday morning, she woke up with a dry diaper. She went in the potty most of the day!! She was dry though nap up until about 3pm and then it was kind of like she forgot about it all and didn’t ask again that night. When it came time for the the big poo, there was a bit of a fight. She kept telling me she had to go over and over again, but would say “all done all done!” when we got there. So finally after about 4 or 5 times of this, I just made her sit, even though she had a cow. She finally went, though! Since then (Thursday) she has had many wet accidents, but she’s only poo’d once in her diaper (and that was only because I was on the phone yesterday and wasn’t watching). So now, she is probably only peeing in her diaper 2 or 3 times a day (using the potty much more than that) and we haven’t had a fight to poo on the potty the last 2 times!!
So this is all exciting, because if she keeps this up, she will be potty trained in the next few months. The great thing is, she really initiated this by herself. I have been encouraging it by doing things like taking her to the potty when she wakes dry from nap, or showing her what the potty is for, but she started telling me that she was peeing (while doing it) a few weeks ago..and that progressed to her telling me before! Most of the time, she makes it to the bathroom, too.
Sorry to bore everyone with the potty details, I’m just so excited!
Anyway, moving on.
When we came home Friday night, there was around an inch of fresh-fallen snow on the ground, so I geared Lidia up and let her play a little bit before dinner. She had a blast!
