Monsters Are Eating My Brain

Brushing our teeth. It’s something we do every day. I’ll admit, it is often a time where my mind wanders to the billions of things I need to get done, or to the billions of things I forgot to do. Or sometimes I’m just standing there, still trying to doze off while I get this maintenance task over with.

Somewhere along the line, things have changed. I now have a toothbrushing buddy. Lidia has taught me (and I think Daddy, too) that the most dental hygiene fun can be had when it is done “allgether” as she would say.

Imagine this morning’s scenario. As we had finished breakfast and were about to leave the house, I prepared to check off the last thing on my “getting ready” routine, and grabbed the toothbrush. Well, Lids, by my side, grabbed hers, too. We both armed our brushes and set off to scrubbing. As I scrubbed and watched myself in the mirror, my mind began to wander a bit and, as any first time pregnant woman would do, I turned to the side to view my girth yet again. Oops! My shirt wasn’t pulled all the way down in the back. I gave it a little tug and suddenly my eyes wandered down to the second reflection in the mirror–the one that had also turned to the side and gave the back of its shirt a little tug.

At this point, i could not help but grin as I brushed, to which she responded with her “Hey, what did I do that was cute?” grin. As any attention loving 2 year old would do, she jumped on the task of repeating the previous behavior to see if Mommy would laugh. Naturally, it worked.

After a few replays, we finished up our tooth brushing, and I couldn’t help but smile that heart smile as I watched her flick off the bathroom light and lead the way, announcing “All right! All ready go!”

So, when did that tiny thing we brought home become so big, anyway???
