Another Potty Milestone
Warning: Boring potty training rambling to follow.
Those of you who have followed our quiet little life know that Lidia has been day potty trained since just before her 2nd birthday. She night trained about a month after that, so diapers have long been gone from our house. Although she has been night trained, for some reason unknown to us, she would not get up to go potty on her own at night. Instead, she just calls us to come help her. This hasn’t really been a big deal for me, since I’d rather help her and know she went than deal with accidents (or diapers).
At any rate, we’ve been encouraging her for quite some time with things like “If you have to go potty in the night, you can just go, you don’t have to wait for Mommy and Daddy.” We’ve placed night lights in the appropriate places and everything. There’s a nice bright one that shines RIGHT into the bathroom (her room is directly across from the bathroom).
Well, last night, I was only half sleeping as usual, and I heard footsteps going down the ladder of her bed. I thought, “Whoa! She’s getting up! It’s only 4am” and then I hear the pitter patter of feet on the bathroom floor! I listened for a few minutes and then thought “Oh no, she’s wearing her ‘hard jammies’”–a one piece zipper jammie that she can get off pretty well but not back on. Well she managed to get it off just fine and you could hear her use the potty, then get quiet. Finally Adam got up and she only really needed help getting them back on. (She tends to turn the sleeves inside out when she takes them off). He got her all zippered up, congratulated her, and back to bed she went. He retucked her and we didn’t hear another peep until amost 8am!
I was so excited by this milestone that I could hardly fall back asleep. It’s little, yes, but one more step toward big-girlness :)
All that is left with potty related milestones is learning to zipper and snap/button hard pants–oh, and proper post-poo clean up detail… Yes, we still get calls for assistance on that one…

Oh! what a milestone!!! We have been contemplating starting the potty training process, but I don’t want to give up my baby boy yet. Although, not having to change diapers would be a blessing.
